Extensis Releases Universal Type Server 4; Brings Professional Class Font Management to Adobe’s Creative Cloud
PORTLAND, Ore. — October 1, 2013 —Today, Extensis announced the immediate availability of Universal Type Server 4, the latest version of the professional-grade font server which helps organizations manage, organize, and distribute their font libraries. Offering powerful new features such as font auto-activation plug-ins for Adobe® Creative Cloud™, enhanced font license management for mitigating legal risk, and QuickComp™ for fast and easy font selection, Universal Type Server 4 offers improved access to fonts and the ability to use them effectively.
“For companies working with large collections of fonts, a solution to manage them is not only critical for efficiency, but also for ensuring that the licensing parameters are clear so no one steps on a legal landmine,” said Chris Meyer, Sr. Product Manager for Font Management. “Universal Type Server 4 is built to make font management simple, so creative users can focus on what they do best— create.”
Making the Leap to Adobe Creative Cloud
Universal Type Server 4 delivers brand new auto-activation plug-ins for the recently debuted Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including InDesign®, Photoshop®, Illustrator® and InCopy®. Extensis will be delivering regular plug-in updates to ensure compatibility with the continuous flow of real-time Creative Could updates. With plug-ins designed to work on both Mac and PC platforms, it doesn’t matter what operating system teams choose, Universal Type Server has them covered.
Universal Type Server 4 also includes a full array of plug-ins for previous Adobe Creative Suite™ Applications.
Enhanced Font License Management
Font license management is only effective if designers actually know what they can do with each font. Major global brands have been subjected to million dollar lawsuits from font misuse, a price that need not be paid when the proper tools are in place.
Universal Type Server 4 enables administrators to track font license information and then expose that information to members of the creative team. Creative users can easily see the details so they know how each font can be used and continue with their work.
QuickComp for Fast and Easy Font Selection
Selecting typefaces that work well together is often the first thing creative teams do when starting a new project. QuickComp makes it easy to test, experiment and select font pairs. Designers can quickly create side-by-side samples right within the Universal Type Client. Sample templates cover the most common design jobs, making it easy for teams to select fonts that work well together for headlines, body copy, captions and more.
Additional New Features
Extensis has packed Universal Type Server 4 with many additional improvements; some user-facing, and some that are operating under the hood for maximum performance. These include:
- A new PostgreSQL Database for increased speed and stability
- Font Cache Cleaning improvements for optimized stability and repair of cache corruption issues (Mac only)
- Updated font corruption and integrity checking ensures a smooth creative workflow, free of corrupt fonts
- Enhanced Font Info panel, offering font information in a convenient and easy way
