Educause 2013 Annual Conference Update
Recently I attended the annual Educause conference in Anaheim, California. Educause is the main event where higher education professionals and technology companies come together. The big and small vendors were all present including Dell, Microsoft, Panasonic and McGraw Hill.
Several seminars and events were held and attendees had the chance to get ‘up close and personal’ with the latest trends in technology and how to integrate more easily with the needs of higher education.
Here is a quick sampling of the varied topics discussed:
- Image-Rich Digital Tools Encourage Learning in Lab Courses
- Multi-factor Authentication in Higher Ed
- The Global Social Network
- Decision Support/Data Warehousing
- The Latest in Student Planning and Advising Tools
Learning Management Systems have evolved greatly over the past several years and Online Learning had a big presence on the exhibit floor. Canvas, Blackboard and Desire to Learn all had impressive booths and presentations. talking to a few attendees about online learning, the common thread was it’s great and not just for online only educators. Traditional colleges are realizing a higher student success rate when a blended approach of in-class lectures, labs and discussions are supplemented with rich media online components.
What’s this have to do with Portfolio? With learning management systems being utilized by more traditional and online only colleges there is a need to be more organized than ever. This means leveraging your Portfolio solution to store, tag and find assets that are needed to create a rich learning environment for students.
