How do I move a font vault from one computer to another? (MacOS X)

Description

This article describes how to move a Suitcase Fusion font vault from one Mac to another.

Solution

Follow these instructions to move or copy your Suitcase Fuion 3 font vault between Macs. The font vault contains the fonts that you’ve loaded in, as well as sets and metadata.

NOTE: You can use your copied vault in the same version of Suitcase Fusion 3 that created it, or newer. Don’t try to use your copied vault in an older version.

  1. On “Computer A”:
    1. Open Activity Monitor from /Applications/Utilites
    2. Locate ‘FMCore’ in the ‘Process Name’ column and click the “Quit Process” button
    3. Locate your font vault:
In OS X, the font vault will be located in: /Users/[username]/Library/Extensis/Suitcase Fusion/
NOTE:On OSX 10.7, this folder is hidden. To access it, select the Finder’s ‘Go’ menu while holding down the ‘Option’ key. Select ‘Library’ from the list, then browse into /Extensis/Suitcase Fusion
    4. Copy the font vault to the second Mac (“Computer B”)
  2. On “Computer B”:
    1. Download and install Suitcase Fuion 3. You can download an installer from here: http://www.extensis.com/support/product-support/suitcase-fusion-3/
    2. Enter your Suitcase Fuion 3 serial number to serialize the program
    3. Quit Suitcase Fusion 3
    4. Open Activity Monitor from /Applications/Utilites
    5. Locate ‘FMCore’ in the ‘Process Name’ column and click the “Quit Process” button
    6. Move the font vault from “Computer A” to the following location: /Users/[username]/Library/Extensis/Suitcase Fusion/
    7. Open Suitcase Fusion 3. You should now see the same fonts and font sets from “Computer A”. This same technique can also be used to restore a backup of your font vault or to copy one between user accounts on the same machine.
