Back up Suitcase Fusion 3 fontvault

Description

It’s always good to make backups, and your fontvault is no exception to that rule.

Solution

To make a backup that you can revert to later, follow the steps below. It’s a good idea to make backups on a regular basis so that your backups reflect your most recent Suitcase configuration.

Mac OSX

  1. Quit Suitcase Fusion 3 if it is open
  2. Go to /Applications/Utilities
  3. Launch Activity Monitor
  4. Look for ‘FMCore’ in the ‘Process Names’ column
  5. Select ‘FMCore’ and click on the ‘Quit Process’ button
  6. Quit Activity Monitor
  7. Go to /Users/~your username/Library/Extensis/Suitcase Fusion (Note: On OSX 10.7, this folder is hidden. To access it, select the Finder’s ‘Go’ menu while holding down the ‘Option’ key. Select ‘Library’ from the list, then browse into /Extensis/Suitcase Fusion
  8. Inside the Suitcase Fusion folder you will see a file called Suitcase Fusion.fontvault. Right-click on it and choose ‘Compress’ (Note: If you have a one-button mouse you can ‘ctrl+click’
  9. This will create a .zip file which you can move and store somewhere safe. If anything ever happens to your fontvault you can restore it to get Suitcase back to where it was when you made the backup

Windows 7

  1. Quit Suitcase Fusion 3 if it is open
  2. Use ‘Ctrl+Alt+Delete’ to start Task Manager
  3. In Task manager, go to the ‘Processes’ tab
  4. Look for ‘FMCore’ in the ‘Image Name’ column
  5. Right-click on ‘FMCore’ and choose ‘end process’
  6. Close Task Manager
  7. Go to your Start Menu and type %appdata% into the Search field
  8. This will open a folder which will have Your username > AppData > Roaming at the top of the window. Click on ‘AppData’ in that filepath
  9. Open Local from the list of folders that are displayed
  10. Open the Extensis folder
  11. Open the Suitcase Fusion folder
  12. Right-click on the ‘Suitcase Fusion.fontvault’ folder and choose ‘Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder’
  13. This creates a .zip archive of your fontvault which you can then move and store somewhere safe.
