I am unable to use Cambria Math.ttf from MicroSoft Office 2011 with Suitcase Fusion 3.

Solution

If you add Cambria Math.ttf from MicroSoft Office 2011 to Suitcase Fusion 3, it will be displayed with a red dot next to the font name, indicating a problem font. If you then go to Edit -> Render Problem Font, Suitcase crashes.

This issue was addressed in Suitcase Fusion 4. If you have Suitcase Fusion 3 and need to use Cambria Math, we recommend upgrading to the current version.

Description

When I try to install Portfolio Server, I get an error that states, “The account does not have administrator or logon as service privileges. Please go back and reenter them again.”

Solution

In some scenarios it is necessary to run Portfolio Server using a domain user account. This is usually done so that its services can access files on a network share. If the account is not set up to log on as a service on the system that Portfolio Server will be installed on, you can grant that privilege to the account.

Note:

The account must have full read/write access to all network locations that contain files that you intend to catalog and make available to users of Portfolio Server.

Make sure that you use an account whose password will not change. If the password is changed, Portfolio Server will lose access to the network share.

The account also needs to be a member of the local Administrators group, so that it has full control over the Portfolio Server program directory and system files.

Here are steps to allow a domain user account to run as a service on a Windows server:

Go to your Start menu and select Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy

In Local Security Policies, expand “Local Policies” and click on “User Rights Assignment”

Double-click on “Log on as a service” and click on “Add User or Group”

Type in the user account name that you want to run Portfolio Server under and hit the Enter key

Enter the username and password when the Windows Security prompt asks you to authenticate

The account name should show up in the “Log on as a service” Properties dialog. Click OK to close it.

After that’s done, you should be able to use that account name to run Portfolio Server as a service.

Description

My Portfolio NetPublish collections are empty and the “You are here” links at the top of the results and detail pages do not work properly.

Solution

When you visit a NetPublish site, NetPublish looks for a browser cookie named “NetPublishCollectionID”. NetPublish uses the session ID stored in NetPublishCollectionID to set the contents of a NetPublish site’s collection (referred to on some sites as a “cart”, a “wishlist”, or “favorites”). If the NetPublishCollectionID cookie is not present, NetPublish generates a new session ID and uses it to create the cookie.

Some site templates also create additional cookies that are used to generate the URLs that appear in the “You are here” breadcrumb trail at the top of a results or detail page.

Deleting cookies in your browser, or using a browser feature, third-party application, or add-on to prevent cookies from being created, prevents NetPublish from being able to track the contents of a user’s collection and prevent the breadcrumb trail links from working correctly. If you must use such a feature or application, add the NetPublish server to the exceptions list or whitelist.

I want to rename an FDB catalog in Portfolio Server.

Solution

It is fairly simple to rename FDB catalogs with Portfolio Server.

Here’s how you can do that:

Open a web browser and log into the Portfolio Server Administration application

Click on ‘Catalogs’ in the left column

In the middle column, select the catalog that you want to rename

In the right section, click on ‘Database’

Type in a new name for the catalog in the ‘Name’ field

You will see a warning that the catalog will be temporarily taken offline. Click ‘OK’ to proceed

The catalog will appear in the Catalogs pane with the new name.

For SQL-based Portfolio catalogs, see How to rename a SQL Server catalog. This will not preserve your catalog memberships; for more assistance, contact Extensis Technical Support.

NOTE: Portfolio NetPublish sites that use the renamed catalog must be updated to point to the new catalog name. See this article for details.

This article describes general troubleshooting tips for font problems on a Windows PC.

Solution

This article will have you verify software updates, follow recommended practices for Suitcase Fusion 4 on Windows PCs, then carefully follow the instructions in each of the troubleshooting procedures below. Be sure to stop to test the issue after each step.

Verify Software Updates:

Make sure you’re running the latest version of Suitcase Fusion 4.

Go to the ‘Tools’ menu in Suitcase Fusion 4 and select “Check for Updates…”, then download and install all pending updates.

Make sure you have applied the latest updates to each of your design applications.

The Adobe CS products can be updated by choosing the “Updates…” option from the ‘Help’ menu within each CS application.

Follow Recommended Practices:

Please refer to this article: Recommended Practices for Windows PCs

Troubleshooting

If you have applied all software patches, followed our recommendations, but are continuing to have problems using fonts with Suitcase Fusion 4, please try the following steps:

Clear Operating System Caches:

Windows XP

To reset the operating system font cache:

Close all applications, including Suitcase

Close all applications, including Suitcase

Delete:
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\GDIPFONTCACHEV1.DAT

Restart your PC and then empty the Recycle Bin

Clear the Adobe Creative Suite Font Caches:

XP, Vista and Windows7

Quit all Adobe applications

Select Start Menu > Search

Select “All files and folders”

For the first search criteria “all or part of file name” box, enter “adobefnt”

Make sure “Local Hard Drives” is selected under “Look in:”

Click on “More advanced options”

Check the “Search hidden files and folders” checkbox

Press “Search”

Select all of the files in the results window that end in “.lst” and choose File > Delete

Use the “Search” tab to select and configure “Advanced Options”, indicate you will search “Partial Matches” and “System Files”.

Enter “adobefnt” into the Search Field.

Select all of the files in the results window that end in “.lst” and choose File > Delete

Empty the Recycle Bin

Check any Anti-Virus/Firewall settings that could be interfering with SF4.

Temporarily disable any anti-virus and firewall software while troubleshooting. You may need to make your anti-virus/firewall software aware of SF4 and the FMCore to avoid conflicts. Check with the AV or Firewall developer on how to add a program as an exception or to an approved programs list if necessary.

Remove Suitcase Fusion 4 Preference Files:

Open Windows Task Manager (control + alt + delete).

Choose the processes tab

Locate “FMCore.exe” and click the “end process” button

Remove the following files:

Windows XP

C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Extensis\com.extensis.FMCore-LaunchInfo.conf

C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Extensis\com.extensis.SuitcaseFusion.db

C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Extensis\FontManagementUI.exe
(folder)

NOTE: “Application Data” is a hidden folder. In order to view it, choose Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab and check “Show hidden files and folders.”

Windows Vista, Windows 7 & Windows 8

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Extensis\com.extensis.FMCore-LaunchInfo.conf

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Extensis\com.extensis.SuitcaseFusion.db

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Extensis\FontManagementUI.exe
(folder)

NOTE: “AppData” is a hidden folder. In order to view it, choose Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab and check “Show hidden files and folders.”

Test the font by placing it into the Windows Font folder.

Suitcase Fusion can manage, preview, and activate any font file supported by Windows. If you notice problems with a font in Suitcase Fusion, you can test the font file by copying it to the
C:\Windows\Fonts
and see if the font is available to your applications. This will bypass Suitcase to see if Windows can properly use the font in question.

Here’s how to do that:

In Suitcase, go to Edit -> Preferences

Switch to the TypeCore tab

Click on ‘Stop Type Core…’ and confirm when you’re prompted

Put the font or fonts to be tested into
C:\Windows\Fonts

Try using the font or fonts in a few different applications. If they work, then the fonts are fine. If not, then there’s a good chance that they are damaged.

Try another font

If the document doesn’t display the correct font but the font is available to the application, the wrong version of a font could be active. Verify that you have the correct version of the font available and active in Suitcase Fusion. If the correct font is active, you may need to replace the missing font in the document with the font listed in the application’s font menu. Some applications have the ability to replace a font in a document with another font; consult your application’s documentation. Keep in mind that the text flow and layout of the document can be affected by using a different version of the original font.

Auto-Activation Problems

If you are having problems auto-activating fonts within Adobe CS products using Suitcase Fusion 4, please try the following:

Check to see if the plugins are installed. In Suitcase Fusion 4, choose Tools > Manage Plugins and check the boxes.

Verify the Font Library you have told the plugin to reference. The fonts you intend to use must be in the selected Font Library.

In Adobe Illustrator and InDesign: Choose Type > Suitcase Fusion 4 > Select Library

In Adobe Photoshop: Choose File > Automate > Extensis > Select Library

In QuarkXPress: Choose Utilities > Suitcase Fusion 4 > Select Library

Does auto-activation work on a new test document?

If you are having trouble with an old document in a new design application, such as a CS3/CS4 document in CS5, manually activate the fonts that it needs, then re-save it. SF4 will cause our plugins to update the Font Sense metadata and it should auto-activate for you moving forward.

I don’t know where to find Portfolio external media engine logs and I need them for troubleshooting purposes.

Solution

Portfolio Server can utilize external media engines enabled by entering a NetMediaMAX license key into the Licenses pane of the Portfolio Server Admin application.

The external media engine logs can be found in the following locations on the servers hosting them (where servername is the hostname for the server that the media engine is installed on):

Mac OS X

/Applications/Extensis/Portfolio Media Engine/logs/

/Applications/Extensis/Portfolio Media Engine/applications/media-engine/logs/servername/

Windows 32-bit

C:\Program Files\Extensis\Portfolio Media Engine\logs\

C:\Program Files\Extensis\Portfolio Media Engine\logs\servername\

Windows 64-bit

C:\Program Files (x86)\Extensis\Portfolio Media Engine\logs\

I get the following error “Please enter a serial number for Portfolio Server before licensing additional components” when I attempt to enter a serial number into Portfolio Server 11.

Solution

You must Portfolio Server license entered before you can add a Portfolio Enterprise, Portfolio NetPublish, or Portfolio NetMediaMAX license key.

Enter your Portfolio Server license key before entering any additional license keys for Portfolio components. To determine which one goes to which component, look at the first two letters of the license key:

“PS” is a Portfolio Server client license

“PE” is a Portfolio Server Enterprise license

“PI” is a Portfolio NetMediaMAX license

“NP” is a Portfolio NetPublish license

Note: Portfolio Studio license keys begin with “PL”; Portfolio Studio cannot be licensed to use additional components.

After I upgraded to Portfolio Netpublish 11, I get a “Portfolio NetPublish is not licensed ” error when I check my sites.

Solution

In Portfolio Server 11 and Portfolio NetPublish 11 and later, the NetPublish serial number is entered into the Server Admin web application for Portfolio Server. In earlier versions this was done through the NetPublish Administration dialog in the Portfolio Desktop Client.

To enter the NetPublish serial number, log into Portfolio Server Administraton, click on ‘Licenses’ and add it to the list of serial numbers.

NOTE: Portfolio Server must already be serialized, or you will get an error message: “Please enter a serial number for Portfolio Server before licensing additional components.”

When I try to install Portfolio Server 11 on Windows 2008 R2, the installer displays the following error message: “The operating system is not adequate for running Extensis Portfolio Server 11.0.1”

Solution

You are probably installing on to Windows 2008 R2 without any service packs installed. Portfolio Server 11 requires Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 or later. If you install Service Pack 1, you should be able to complete the Portfolio Server 11 installation.
