Universal Type Server v1.0.1 and
Type Client v1.0.3 Update

This version of Universal Type Server improves overall performance and scalability for both Universal Type Server Lite and Pro. All server and client components (including auto-activation plug-ins) have been updated for this release. See the full list of Fixed Issues in the release notes for details.
New auto-activation plug-ins for Adobe Illustrator and InDesign CS2 as well as QuarkXPress 8, are included for the Macintosh Client. The Windows client adds 64-bit Vista support and CS4 auto-activation plug-ins. The update also includes the latest versions of existing plug-ins for Adobe Illustrator and InDesign CS3 and QuarkXPress 7.
If you are new to Universal Type Server, you may simply download and install version 1.0.1. If you are a previous Suitcase Server or Font Reserve customer, you should consider the various options outlined in the Upgrade Guides for Suitcase Server and Font Reserve Server.
Universal Type Server (v1.0.1) Update
If you are upgrading from 1.0, you must upgrade your server, before upgrading clients. Version 1.0.1 clients cannot connect to a 1.0 server.
- Backup your server: From the Server Administration web interface, create a backup of your datastore and copy it to a secure location.
- Update your server: Download and launch the Universal Type Server 1.0.1 installer to upgrade your current server installation.
- On Mac OS X, you will need to Stop your server via the Server Administration web interface, before you can run the installer.
- Update your clients: Upgrade all Universal Type Client systems to version 1.0.1.
- Existing 1.0 clients can connect to the 1.0.1 server.
- All local data and user preferences are preserved during the upgrade, however users will be logged-off and will need to log back into the server.
- On Mac OS X, simply allow the installer to guide you through the upgrade process.
- On Windows, you must first uninstall version 1.0 by using Add/Remove Programs (XP) or Programs and Features (Vista).

Important Notes:
- The 1.0.1 Type Client installers include new auto-activation plug-ins, which can be used only with version 1.0.1. Do not put these plug-ins on systems running Type Client 1.0.
- This release does not include new Migration Tools for Font Reserve Server and Suitcase Server. However, the current Migration Tools are compatible.
- Users will be required to login to the Type Server when the server is updated.
- Users may be required to login to the Type Server when the client updated.
