To prevent auto-activation conflicts, before installing the
Universal Type Client, remove any other font auto-activation plug-ins
from the Adobe Illustrator and InDesign plug-ins folders as well as
from the QuarkXPress XTensions folder.
To install Universal Type Client, double click the installer
icon and allow the installer to guide you. Files are installed to the
directory chosen during installation. The default install location is:
<system drive>/Applications folder
To use the Universal Type Client, you must connect to a
Universal Type Server. To connect, you need the following information
provided by your server administrator:
- Server Name or IP Address
- Server Port
- Account Name
- Password
Double click to launch the client and enter the information
above to connect.
To upgrade your current Universal Type Client, double click the installer
icon and allow the installer to guide you through the upgrade process.
When the installation process is complete, launch the newly installed Type Client. You may be required to login to the Type Server when the new client is first launched.
NOTE: The installer places new auto-activation plug-ins on your system. The plug-ins that come with Type Client v1.0.2 must be used only with version 1.0.2 of the Type Client. Do not share these plug-ins with users who are still using Type Client v1.0 as this will cause issues with that user's installation.
Auto-activation plug-in support for the following applications:
- QuarkXPress 7, 8
- Adobe Illustrator CS2, CS3, CS4
- Adobe InDesign CS2, CS3, CS4

The Universal Type Client is an entirely new
product built from the ground up. If you have used the client software
for a previous font manager from Extensis, you will be happy to see
that Universal Type Server contains a number of helpful enhancements.
The following are some of the many enhancements included in the new
client.
Enhancements Compared to
Font Reserve Client
- Cross-platform server and client
software offers Mac and Windows users the same experience and reduces
hardware restrictions.
- Intuitive interface conceptually
based on Suitcase Fusion offers easier font access, improving user
satisfaction and decreasing training and support needs.
- Live previews allow users to
compare fonts with custom text, in a waterfall, and more.
- Offline mode makes it easy for
remote workers to access fonts while not connected. Users can continue
to add and use new fonts while offline by using personal workgroups.
- Smart sets save sophisticated find
criteria and update in real time, allowing designers to always see, for
example, all Adobe OpenType Script fonts, all fonts with a specific
keyword, or whatever they need.
- License details are enhanced for
tracking font software licenses and ensuring compliance.
- Universal application stable and
designed to run on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Mac computers.
- Web-based tools for managing the
server, workgroups, and users allow administrators to work from any
system, anywhere.
Enhancements Compared to Suitcase Client
The Universal Type Client leverages the
accessible interface and easy setup of Suitcase Server and adds the
true client/server architecture of Font Reserve Server.
- Real-time font delivery ensures that all
clients are accessing the right fonts, all the time; synchronization
option is still available.
- Font workgroups allow administrators to
organize fonts by project, department, and more, controlling access and
ensuring proper usage.
- Smart sets save sophisticated find
criteria and update in real time, allowing designers to always see, for
example, all Adobe OpenType Script fonts, all fonts with a specific
keyword, or whatever they need.
- License details are enhanced for
tracking font software licenses and ensuring compliance.
- Font management enhancements such as
Group Fonts by Family, more editable font attributes, and metadata help
users locate fonts.
- Serialize all client software at the
server level.
- Auto-activation plug-ins for modern Mac
OS X and Windows design applications, including InDesign and
QuarkXPress, provide precision font matching through patented Font
Sense technology.
- Web-based tools for managing the server,
workgroups, and users allow administrators to work from any system,
anywhere.
We strive to create products that effectively meet customer
needs. Rarely you may run into areas where the software may not
function as expected.
