Suitcase Fusion 2 is the next generation in professional font management. Updates in this release include:

  • Improved set speed, even with large numbers of sets.
  • Resolves some subtle user interface issues.
  • Portugese is now a supported interface language.
  • Other minor improvements.

Installing Suitcase Fusion 2

To install Suitcase Fusion 2, double click the installer on the DVD, or if you downloaded the installer from the Extensis web site, double-click the downloaded installer.

Suitcase Fusion 2 is the next generation in single-user font management. With a completely redesigned user interface as well as a new code base, Suitcase Fusion 2 is the modern and professional font management solution that you need.

The following are the most prominent new features in Suitcase Fusion 2.

This release fixes a number of user interface, activation and set performance issues. For details, see the list of Fixed Issues below.

This release includes compatibility with Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

In addition, this release includes:

  • Adobe InDesign and Illustrator CS2 plug-ins.
  • Support for TrueType Collection (.ttc) fonts, including updated Snow Leopard system fonts.
  • Import and export of font sets.
  • Suitcase Fusion now accepts more fonts that can be manually installed and used at the OS level, even if they fail certain technical validation measures.
  • General stability and compatibility improvements to the InDesign and Illustrator plug-ins
  • Better support for remote deployment of plug-ins
  • The Adobe InDesign plug-in now supports the use of multiple accounts on a single machine.
  • Fonts auto-activate more reliably in layered PDFs.

This release fixes a number of issues, as well as adds a few new features to Suitcase Fusion 2. Most notably, this release adds support for Mac OS X v 10.4.11 (Tiger).

In addition, this release includes:

  • Faster application launch and shutdown speed.
  • Faster font activation and deactivation.
  • Faster activation of permanently active fonts when launching Suitcase Fusion 2.
  • Improved display of data in the plug-ins manager, as well as the ability to install plug-ins for multiple versions of a single design application.
  • QuickFind searches now include Keywords.
  • Updated plug-in management features, including more detailed plug-in information, as well as the ability to prompt to install and update plug-ins when they are available.".
  • Now displays a complete list of corrupt fonts when they are added to Suitcase Fusion.
  • New 'Libraries' column added to the fonts pane displays the libraries in which a font resides.
  • Added the ability to search for fonts by the date they were added to Suitcase Fusion.
  • Udpated the method by which Suitcase Fusion reports potential application issues back to Extensis.
  • Updated the name of the core background process from SFCore to FMCore.

This release fixes an issue affecting some configurations of Mac OS X 10.5.6 that would prevent Suitcase Fusion 2 from launching. In addition, it includes a stability improvement, addressing a problem reported to Extensis by users through the crash reporter.

  • Selective global auto-activation allows you to select which applications to have Suitcase Fusion 2 automatically activate fonts.
  • Updated auto-activation plug-ins now include an XTension for QuarkXPress 8 and plug-ins for Adobe InDesign and Illustrator CS4.

Font organization

  • Improved search options allow you to quickly locate fonts using very granular font information.
  • Smart Sets dynamically filter and display fonts based on your own custom settings.
  • Font libraries allow you to organize fonts the way that you want.
  • A portable Font Vault allows you to quickly backup your entire font collection, easily switch to an entirely different database, and even move your Font Vault to another drive.

System font management

  • Improved system font management features help you avoid font conflicts and other problems with system fonts. (Mac OS X 10.5, Leopard only)
  • Easy identification helps you disable unnecessary fonts in your system folders.

Previewing fonts

  • Enhanced font preview options, including automatic encoding detection for most Roman and non-Roman languages.
  • Floating previews allow you to preview fonts as transparent document overlays.
  • Easily customized previews allow you to quickly display preview text as you want it.
  • Glyph View Window allows you to inspect the glyphs of a selected font and compare them to any other font in Suitcase Fusion 2.

Font corruption checking and repair

  • Enhanced font corruption detection and repair.

Known issues

We strive to create products that effectively meet customer needs. Rarely, you may run into areas where the software may not function as expected.

One known issue with this release has to do with system font management. When running Suitcase Fusion 2 under Mac OS X v10.4.11 (Tiger), system fonts can be viewed, but cannot be deactivated or overridden.
