Extensis Portfolio NetPublish

Installation

The Portfolio NetPublish client is installed automatically with the Portfolio client. This installer is used to install the NetPublish Server portion that works in conjunction with your web server.

System Requirements
  • Windows Server 2003 SP2 (32-bit only)
  • 1 GHz Pentium (2 GHz recommended)
  • 256MB available system RAM (512MB recommended)
  • 1024x768 or higher resolution display for remote administration
  • 500MB available hard disk space, plus space for temporary and cache files
  • Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) version 6 only
  • 100 megabit or faster network connection**
  • Internet Explorer v7 or higher, Mozilla Firefox v3 or higher for HTML documentation and viewing published sites

** Portfolio NetPublish Server may require additional bandwidth for access to files on network shares and/or connections to other services.

Installing Portfolio NetPublish Server

In addition to the Portfolio client installation, you must also install Portfolio NetPublish Server on your web server. Before running the NetPublish Server installer, you must first properly set up your server environment.

In a Windows server environment, Microsoft IIS must be installed. Check your Windows documentation and help files for installation instructions.
  1. Double-click to launch the installer.
  2. Navigate through the beginning steps of the installer. Accept the end-user license and choose an install location. To function properly, Portfolio NetPublish must be installed in the default location.
  3. Click Finish.
  4. After installing NetPublish server, if you have a firewall through which you want the server to communicate, make sure to open the port you designated in the NetPublish installer.

Files are installed to the directory chosen during installation. The default install location is:
<system disk>:\Program Files\Extensis\Portfolio NetPublish.

The following files are installed in addition to those found in the Portfolio application folder.
Windows\System32\msvcp70.dll
Windows\System32\NTEventLogAppender.dll
Windows\System32\Redist\MS\System\msvcp60.dll
Windows\System32\Redist\MS\System\msvcrt.dll
Windows\System32\isapi_fcgi.dll

Previous Versions

Portfolio NetPublish can be installed directly on top of previous versions of Portfolio NetPublish.

Documentation Note

For the most up-to-date product documentation, please visit the Extensis website and download the user guide PDF files. While efforts are made to have documentation parity across all supported languages, it can take time for new content in the English guides to be propagated to localized guides. Download the most current localized material from the website.


Known issues

The following issues are known, but have not yet been addressed in this version of Portfolio NetPublish. The list is intended to cite the most serious problems known. It is not an exhaustive list of all known problems.

ID Description
A Portfolio Server 9.0 includes a new server-based, central Media Engine for media processing and cataloging. This means that some file types may produce different results when cataloged, including (for some legacy file types) no thumbnail or preview. Please check the Extensis website for the latest information on file format support.
B Portfolio Server is not compatible with PowerPC based Mac OS X computers.
C Portfolio Server and Client 9.0 is the a true client/server version of the product. Accordingly, many operations which could be done as a single-user version of the application are no longer possible. These include such operations and features as Background Cataloging, the ability for clients to open or create non-served catalogs, ability to publish non-served catalogs to NetPublish and certain user preferences, like QuickFind. The product also includes a full-featured Web Administration interface, so many common administration tasks can no longer be performed by clients. Please review the product documentation for additional information.
D Level-based user access is no longer supported. Portfolio Clients and NetPublish sites are required to use a catalog-member accounts on Portfolio Server.
