The Perfect Match: Ensuring Flawless Auto-Activation in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator
One of the great advantages of using a font manager is that it can auto-activate fonts for you when you open a document in an application like InDesign or Illustrator, saving you time and hassle. Most font managers will identify fonts for auto-activation simply by matching its Postscript name. But for creative pros whose job and even reputations depend on fonts, matching the exact version (not just the name) of the font used in the document is important.
Why? Well, for example, activating the wrong version of Helvetica—the Apple TrueType instead of your Adobe OpenType version—can cause document re-flows, branding no-no’s, even unwanted character substitutions.

Suitcase Fusion users can ensure that they are auto-activating the correct versions of their fonts in InDesign and Illustrator by checking the “Enable Font Sense Support” option in their InDesign and Illustrator Auto-Activation Plug-Ins. This enables all of the information about the fonts used, including type and foundry, to be saved when you save your document. Any Suitcase Fusion user can then use that information to identify and auto-activate the correct versions of the fonts used when opening the same document.
