URW++
URW++ is one of the oldest all-digital type foundries. Many metal type foundries employed its predecessor, URW, to digitize their fonts back in the 1980s and early 90s. URW always had a strong technical base, such as creating the “hz” justification algorithms with Hermann Zapf. Today URW++ continues to do a mix of font development and related work, such as creating the DTL FontMaster series of font development tools in partnersip with the Dutch Type Library.
URW++ is notable for its large library of fonts (over 1000 available in WebINK), comprising a mix of classics, revivals and original typefaces. WebINK and Extensis.com currently use URW Grotesk for body text and navigation elements.
